HHS Conducts Review of Health Care Workers’ Conscience Rights Protections

The agency states that a hospital threatened the jobs of religious employees.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is conducting a compliance review into a hospital that allegedly failed to comply with federal laws protecting healthcare workers’ conscience rights. The hospital allegedly threatened to terminate ultrasound technicians who raised religious objections to participating in abortion procedures.

“The Department is committed to enforcement of our nation’s laws that safeguard the fundamental rights of conscience and religious exercise,” said Acting Director Anthony Archeval of the HHS Office for Civil Rights. “Health care professionals should not be coerced into, fired for, or driven out of the profession for declining to perform procedures that Federal law says they do not have to perform based on their religious beliefs or moral convictions.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting Director Archeval to be prudent as he heads the HHS Office for Civil Rights.
  • For Secretary Kennedy to receive God’s guidance as he manages the Department of Health and Human Services.
